Boyfrens is the songwriting and production project of Dublin electro-pop artist Jack Hevey. Since launching, Boyfrens has released two EPs, a mixtape, several singles, remixes and a live performance video. Influenced by artists like Suicide and Arthur Russell, Hevey crafts songs with a keen focus on lyrics and texture, where saturated synths meet hard-hitting percussion. Positive reviews and playlisting from the likes of BBC 6 Music, KEXP Seattle, Nialler9, Hot Press and more have followed all releases to-date.
While earlier Boyfrens material meditated on themes of masculinity, intimacy, relationship dynamics and self-doubt, recent compositions have seen the artist turn towards broader issues of political restriction and cultural decay.
The project’s live show is geared towards late-night dancefloors - mixing live modulated vocals, analogue synths and programmed beats.
2022 saw Boyfrens release his most critically-lauded material thus far, as well as play a successful run of headline and support slots, both at home and abroad. Notable gigs included a sold-out headline show in London's Old Blue Last, a sold-out headliner in Amsterdam's Sexyland and a sold-out co-headline show in Limerick's Kasbah Social Club, as well as a memorable Saturday performance at Féile na Gréine.
2023 will see several releases from the project, a string of live shows during the Summer and Autumn months and a number of collaborations with Irish artists.
