I’m Cathal, a Mayo artist who frequently forgets his guitar picks right before a performance. I enjoy chocolate and creating songs using lyrics of humour and dark irony, which I loosely refer to as ‘folk pop’.
‘Ground Control’ for me is a self-built recording studio at home in Foxford where I do all my best work in secret. I write, perform and produce my own songs before releasing them out into the world.
I do come with some training: a 2015 degree in Applied Music from Dundalk IT, where I specialised in music composition. Since then I have worked with artists such as David Doocey, Caoi DeBarra and Zöe Conway and played all over Ireland.
Under the tutelage of Hubert Francis, an operatic tenor, I have developed my vocal abilities, while being influenced by artists such as Damien Rice, The National and Nine Inch Nails.
In 2024, I will be releasing more songs, playing more gigs and hopefully having the funds to buy emergency supplies of guitar picks
