Cursed Murphy, aka Peter Murphy, is a spoken word performer and writer from Wexford. He released his first single 'Foxhole Prayer' in September 2018 (selected by Hot Press as their featured track of the day), and is currently recording his debut album with his live ensemble the Resistance, plus long-time collaborators Dan Comerford (Frankenstein Bolts), Johnny Fox (Ger Fox Sailing) and Basciville.
He has previously released two spoken word/music albums with the Revelator Orchestra: The Sounds of John the Revelator and The Brotherhood of the Flood, adapted from his acclaimed novels John the Revelator and Shall We Gather at the River (Faber). The latter album, which featured Colm Mac Con Iomaire on a number of tracks, received a stunning 10/10 review from The Last Mixed Tape in 2014.
Murphy has performed in New York, London, Berlin, Boston, Italy, Sweden and beyond, and his non-fiction has appeared in Rolling Stone, The Guardian and Hot Press. He is also an occasional showrunner, actor and broadcaster.
Of his book Shall We Gather at the River, Richard Hell wrote: “This book is majestic and squalid at the same time, as if the Bible were actually about Elvis. The rhythm and music carry you like a baby on a raft on the river, but it's the precision of the words that cinches you. Maybe best of all, it makes you think and argue, first with the author and then with everything around you." The Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield described John the Revelator as, “Full of things I can remember but can’t imagine, a stunning debut novel.”
