Dublin based singer-songwriter Danny Carroll released his debut solo album 'I Am The Cheese' on the 1st March 2024. Receiving a four star review in the Irish Times, the collection was praised by Lauren Murphy for its "charmingly well-rounded songs" and "quietly striking lyrics".
Enlisting the help of acclaimed producer Chris W. Ryan (New Dad, Just Mustard, Robocobra Quartet), the two developed songs with a playful, anything goes approach, with Carroll’s songs likened to softer touchstones of indie rock, such as Belle & Sebastian and Wilco.
The album’s lead single Golden Hour was described as “gorgeously understated” (Chordblossom) and accompanied by a video by Niamh Barry. HotPress suggested “this indie-folk track feels like it should be the background music for when you watch the guy fall for the girl in a romcom”.
It went on to receive repeated airplay on Late Date on RTÉ Radio 1, and the album release resulted in interview features on The Nova Guestlist (Radio Nova), The London Ear (RTE 2XM), The Thin Air, and The Point Of Everything podcast as well as playlist features from Far Out Magazine (UK), The Last Mixed Tape, HotPress and others.
Danny will be opening for Arborist in the Workman’s Cellar on the 24th May, with future dates to be announced. This follows Irish tours last year supporting Hamish Hawk (Singular Artists) and headline shows promoted by Homebeat.
