Hailing from Sligo, situated on the Atlantic North-west coast Of Ireland Duane Gallagher has etched a career to date as a session musician, playing with a collective of local musicians at home and abroad.
After spending years indulging in bands like Metallica, Thin Lizzy, and Iron Maiden, Gallagher now finds himself on the pathway to achieving his ultimate dream of creating and producing his own music.
During his teens, Duane played with local bands such as Those Nervous Animals, and was also a member of local legendary band Legacy, whose music was the soundtrack to the nineties for most local metal-heads.
In 2005, Gallagher realised in order to pursue a creative career he would need the professional tools of a musician, and completed a Certificate in Music Studies in the University of Ulster, Magee Co. Derry.
For the past four years he has lived a secluded life in the hills of North Sligo at the foot of Ben Bulben. Winters were spent in hibernation, song writing and putting together a collective of local musicians to rehearse his music.
Gallagher has spent the last few years playing on the live scene in Sligo and elsewhere, as well as collaborating with other Musicians, namely recording with Yngve Wieland of the Space to Be Yourself Collective. He has played with Sligo based musician and producer Seamie O’ Dowd on numerous projects, and also toured with George Hamilton IV (Ambassador of Country Music) and legendary Irish Country singer Sandy Kelly.
Summer 2008 saw Gallagher take the epic trip to Nashville where he witnessed the home of singer-song writing, the raw talent and sheer quality of the musicians who had taken the city as their home.
Over the next few weeks , Gallagher will be uploading a selection of songs which he has been working on for the past few months. This offering will also coincide with an intimate tour of Ireland in the following months along with his new E.P.
"I have had the pleasure of touring 'in concert' on many occasions, with Duane Gallagher, of Sligo-Duane has often accompanied me on electric Bass and I found him to be an excellent musician, with natural gifts and sensitivity-it has been both a joy and privilage to perform with him!"
-George Hamilton IV
"I've had the pleasure of playing a good number of gigs with Duane over the last five or six years. And in that time I've seen him evolve from one of the young up-and-coming musicians into an important element of the tapestry that is the Sligo music scene. He is a top class bassist and vocalist and his move to guitar playing and songwriting is a vital juncture in the path of an emerging creative force."
The message most definitely is to watch this space!
