Meghan Ali is a young and upcoming songwriter from the northside of Cork City that composes songs for a wide range of genres including Blues, Trad, Folk, Rock and Pop. Most her songs are based around acoustic guitar. She started playing guitar when she was 12 years old and hasn’t let it go since. She first took lessons for over a year and then decided she could go her own way after that.
She always found that once guitar was in hand and the first strings were plucked, melodies and concepts came naturally to her. At 15 she recorded her first song ‘Dear John’ in Clay Castle Studios and with the help of a few other musicians, managed to get it played on the radio. On hearing that first song being played on the airwaves, Meghan knew that this was her calling. In 2012 she won a song writing competition held by The Vocal Chord Recording Studio and judged by The Academy of Popular Music, Cork for her song ‘Mr. Wrong’.
She is currently studying Music, Management and Sound in C.S.N and has also this year released her first single ‘Coming Home’ which is now available on iTunes. The launch for her single will take place on the 2nd of December in the Bru Bar in Cork City.
Having experienced what it’s like to release a single, Meghan Ali’s next step will undoubtedly be to record an E.P. or album and plans to have achieved this in the next year and a half. Along with this, it is her goal for the year ahead to write songs for and work with other musicians around Ireland. “While I enjoy singing and performing, my true passion lies in the actual composing of songs, creating beautiful melodies along with meaningful and intuitive lyrics. My ambition is that I will someday write songs that any artist would be happy to perform.”
