Mersk Collective

Mersk was formed as a collective in 2008 to explore the space between noise/drone and musicality. Each Mersk performance is an improvised and evolving interplay of dark soundscapes, distorted harmonic overlays, and haunted fragments of instrumentation.

Taking influence from everything like free jazz improvisation to noise and drone experiments, our music is like a long conversation between musicians, talking back and forth, and listening to what each is doing. Silence is an important part of a performance where a musician can stop playing and listen to what the other improvisers are doing. It's an interesting exercise in performance and patience.

Each of our performances are different but we embrace tension and disquiet. That is why silence is key.
