Phunklore

Dance // Dublin

Richie McCann started mixing at the early age of 11 using a double tape deck to create some cheesy megamixes (still has them). It was 1990 and the rave scene was taking off. Using samples he started to produce tracks immediately with the Empire Noise Tracker on his Atari ST, an electronic four track player/recorder. By the mid nineties, a real four track player and a couple of alter-egos later (Fluidity & Jambon) started to produce House music with the use of a proper studio. His DJing career began around this time, again mainly playing house music but it was a couple of years later before he had his own equipment. By this time (late 90s) techno had taken over, artists such as Jeff Mills, Claude Young, Surgeon, Dave Clarke and Robert Hood to name but a few, were the ones to see. Thus followed a five year stint in Brussels with several trips to Fuse nightclub and I Love Techno festivals, studying and learning from the best how to work a crowd and sharing the vibe at his own events such as The Weekend Has Landed and U Love Techno to name a couple. His sets of old school classics mixed through the best in techno are to be reckoned with, a must-see-and-hear for all dance fans. On his return to Dublin he signed up with Audio Donor Records and Phunklore was born, releasing 10 EPs over 2 years and hosting a weekly Audio Donor radio show. Was a resident DJ in Q Bar for 2009 playing oldschool classics aswell as appearances in the Morgan Hotel. In 2010 he released his 1st EP with Redbox Records, an increasingly growing label full of new talent from across the globe aswell as remixing tracks for Holland's GO!DIVA, Swiss/Brazilian artist Miss Diamond and Irish pop band Royseven. DJing takes a backseat while producing but the forward plan is to DJ a lot more while keeping the releases regular! 2012 now kicks off with the introduction of Ireland's ripest new digital dance label RIPE RECORDS!
