A meeting of musical minds: PostLast are an alt-pop duo comprised of Julie Hough and Stephen McHale.

The project launched in spring of 2024 with their debut single “Connect 4”, described as “rife with electric melody, soft-toned singing, and angelic harmonies” (Hot Press). The track garnered a wave of acclaim in national and international media, including being selected as a RTE 2FM Track of the Week, The Vinyl District’s UK Artist of The Week, Loud Women’s Track of the Day, and Ocean FM’s Record of The Week.

Their accompanying DIY video for Connect 4 was also premiered by GoldenPlec and listed as one of The Thin Air’s Tracks of The Week.

Julie and Stephen first connected while completing a joint headline tour of Ireland and the UK in 2017 with their respective bands HAVVK and BARQ. Over the past year, they’ve been writing in secret, preparing each element of their collaboration to be ready for public release in spring 2024. The result is a playful escape into their musical imaginations, utterly unlike either of their previous projects.

Stephen says of this new chapter: “We jumped straight into collaborating with the main aim being that we should just enjoy the process. This meant that I was regularly treated to fantastic surprises when the weird little instrumental demo I'd make would come back to me in the shape of a pop song.”

Julie adds: “PostLast has been like a little fever-dream escape from all of my regular projects. We come from such different musical backgrounds and have such different musical minds, so there was no preconception about what the project would sound like.”
