Scruffy Puppy is the sound of a guitar, a handful of home-made beats, some synths, a piano, a violin, some general noise and a voice... it’s just one person that does everything.
Scruffy Puppy's first release entitled “The Adventures of Bob Cola and the New High” hit ears in 2013. An experimental double LP of dirty Hip Hop, Grunge and Lo-Fi Pop. Originally intending to be a statement debut, a mixtape with early songs was released and taken to tour some cities in Japan. Scruffy Puppy returned to Cork with fresh inspiration when a close friend suddenly died tragically. These experiences turned the accessible debut into a psychedelic and overwhelming piece of music.
After it’s release and some airplay of “Olanzapine” on radio which became slightly popular on YouTube, Scruffy Puppy took to recording a follow up. Bukowski (a single) was recorded and released in 2014 on Bandcamp but not released elsewhere following lukewarm response. Some years were taken for Scruffy Puppy to attend medical school, in 2020 the second Bob Cola LP was released.
This LP is the much more straightforward 11 song album that was first envisioned as a debut. Called “Bob Cola’s Blues”, it follows the journey of the titular character now embedded in much of Scruffy Puppy’s songs.
