My name is Sheenagh Shannon, and I'm a 22 year old singer/songwriter from Ireland, based near Dublin. I write songs about boyfriends, their mothers, and everything in-between.
I've been writing music since I was 12 years old. I am deeply comfortable being vulnerable on stage to perform my music as raw as it truly feels. I have documented my experiences through songwriting - including my tumultuous childhood, losing my best friend at 19, heartbreak, grief, insecurity, anger, long-distance relationships, self-confidence and even hating my boyfriend's mother.
My music is a blend of folk-pop-Americana country, with influences of Irish storytelling. I write confessional anecdotal songs, with occasional humorous nods. My sonic influences include First Aid Kit, Kacey Musgraves, Jim Croce, The Chicks, Lorde & Sinead O' Connor.
I busk & gig regularly around Ireland. I was the winner of The Black Deer Fest original artist competition of 2019, and performed an all original set just meters away from American songwriting legend Kris Kristofferson. I am an enthusiastic and sincere performer, gaining weeks of experience overseas in Greece, Spain, & the USA with my original musical-comedy duo, 'Paddy & Johnny.'
I want you to see yourself in the words I write and the melodies I sing. I'm captivated by the human spirit and the relations we have with one another - to me, no experience is wasted if I can turn it into a song that has a fresh & sincere way of capturing what I've been through. I love to assign emotional significance to a mundane object or place that once meant nothing without the context of the heartache that occurred there. Writing songs and finding connection with the people that listen is my purpose. I hope you enjoy my songs - I'm so grateful that you listened! <3
