If we want to see the face of music evolve into something
real, we can begin by forgetting the idea that sales and profits
have a direct correlation with the value of the artist; or the
art they express. We must also abandon the idea that ‘good’
music can only be found on the radio where all of the artists are
paid and played handsomely. If we can get rid of those errors in
thinking, we will naturally want to change the kind of artists that
we associate our ears with. Shiftkit displays an excellent example
of the attitude that ever-evolving artists can be inspired by.
“Not to be too arrogant, but I think I’m a pretty good guy for
people to meet. I know I’m not hard to work with… and if you
met me tomorrow, I would be the same way as I am today.”
He’s a unifying and uplifting person to know. He is consistent
in seeking out new ways to bring a better mindset to the world
around him by any means. Shiftkit’s focus for his musical
journey is ultimately to represent himself and his ideas for a
better future. “I grew up in the Chaka Khan, Parliament, Rick
James, Sugarhill days… sound that made everybody want to
move. They wanted to make everybody feel good. That’s where
I come from. Even as time changed, and everybody started
getting tougher, and started voice more of a ‘street’ opinion. It
was still about ‘feel good’. It was still about bringing people
together. That’s all I’m really on… to see Hip-Hop grow and
mature with it.
