Methodactor, the musical project of Dublin-based songwriter and producer Edward O'Mahony, merges a diverse range of influences, from hip-hop and electronic music to cinematic scores and alternative pop.
Edward’s musical journey began at a young age, with early lessons in piano and guitar, eventually leading him to form his first band by age ten. Before launching Methodactor, Edward fronted Dublin's psych-rock band Jooce from 2015 to 2019, known for their energetic live shows and four single
releases.
After the sudden ending of this project, Edward spent years refining his craft by collaborating with artists like Leah Rose and Orla Monelle as well as working as a composer for short films, including for ‘Bunker Baby’, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2024.
During the pandemic, Edward began sketching out ideas and demos that would evolve into his debut solo sound. Inspired by artists like Frank Ocean,Blood Orange, Radiohead and Gorillaz, Edward developed a style that blends introspective lyricism with atmospheric production.
In 2023, Methodactor’s debut single Bikes introduced his soulful approach tosongwriting, exploring themes of lost friendship. Edward’s upcoming EP, A Fool’s Errand, slated for release in Autumn 2025, is the result of years of development and is described as a deeply personal self-portrait. It reflects his struggles with mental health and self-belief, emotions he hopes to share with listeners who may feel similarly. Throughout this project, Edward aims to offer solace, just as his favourite artists did for him in his own journey. The EP will be accompanied by a rich visual and performance campaign, including music videos, remixes, live shows, and more.
