Methodactor is the pseudonym of songwriter and producer Edward O’Mahony, whose sound is a unique fusion of hip-hop, electronic elements, cinematic scores, and alternative pop.
Raised in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Edward began his musical journey at just five years old with piano lessons, followed by guitar at seven, and forming his first band by age ten. His passion for creating and performing has always been fueled by an eclectic appreciation for music, spanning from classical to hip-hop and electronic genres.
From 2015 to 2019, Edward was the frontman of Dublin's psych-rock band Jooce, known for their energetic live shows across Ireland and the release of four singles. Throughout this period, Edward was inspired to craft music that transcended genre boundaries, drawing influence from his idols such as Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, and Gorillaz.
The concept of Methodactor took shape during the pandemic, as Edward sketched out rough ideas and demos, dedicating the subsequent years to refining these concepts into a cohesive sound. During this time, he honed his composition and production skills, collaborating with artists Leah Rose and Orla Monelle, and scoring multiple short films, including the Galway Film Fleadh premiering short, Bunker Baby.
In October 2023, Methodactor released his debut single, “Bikes,” an R&B-pop exploration of lost friendship. This track served as a launchpad, enabling Edward to book a series of shows in 2024 to showcase new material and develop his upcoming EP is due for release in mid 2025.
